Go for a Hike

Ask me anything, and then go outside!   Hiking, paddling, climbing, or just wandering I love to go outside! In the maine area where I hike it is hard to find a good list of trails, and once you know the trail's name it is even harder to find.

Proof we are still here. Just really busy.

So two days after doing the initial hike,

(Gorham Mountain)

we went hiking again! We were back home from MDIBL and wanted to go for a hike. Bold Coast was the pick. It’s always beautiful and offers something new. The whole trail is 10 miles but we only did 3-miles of it. It took us a long time to do it. Like my previous post I’m gonna say it was icy. That is part of living in the area. Trails are icy longer than the roads. If you are to do the bold coast in Cutler, ME at least have ice cleats or a hiking pole.

Gorham Mountain Trail,

This was our second time on it but unlike the first it was a quick hike. For the first time ever I had no pack, only hiking shoes, and no food on me. I felt like a tourist. I know that sounds bad but I’ve so gotten into the hobby of hiking prepared for dumb little things. I really don’t want to become victim of a dumb mistake made in the woods and end up seriously hurt. Either way JJB and I went with one of our professors and a classmate who we were on the island with. The hike was a blast! There was defiantly ice on the trail and we had some difficult part on the Cadillac Cliff trail.

So the trail splits into two parts temporarily. The only difference is one you are a top the cliffs the other you are at the bottom. Due to the time of year the bottom part had parts that were literally sheets of ice. When it got bad we cut back up to the top. Which was good cause there was no way we could’ve safely done it. The trail had been done previously and the summit was a real let down. That day we thankfully had bright clear weather. The summit was impressive.

The trail was fun but not something one should do with ice. It can be dangerous. It is a quick trail so if you have three hours to kill, do it! Make sure the day is clear and you can see a lot of the island. It’s a short mountain so you don’t see the whole island, but about half of it.

Pictures will come latter.

Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island

So Bar Harbor isn’t quite in Down East County, it is right near the line in Hancock county. Down East may be poorer but this county has a much funnier name. Either way I am on Mount Desert Island till Sunday for a biological course on genetics and looking at bar coding regions to identify four different mammalian species. It sounds pretty dorky and sciency, I’m not going to lie it is. But I’m loving it. We got to do a lot of fun stuff today, and ate GREAT food! This is only day one too!

I normally talk about trails or outdoors stuff but I have been getting into restaurants. Our first night here there wasn’t any food to be had at the co-op. The lab that is hosting us paid for dinner. It was really cool. No one expect them to. We went to Geddy’s in the heart of Bar Harbor near the whale watching dock. The address is:

9 Main St  Bar Harbor, ME 04609-1845. The place is so unique! It has a lot of local character. There are hand painted murals on the walls, license plates from all around. Sitting a top of the building from the outside you have a light up moose.

Aside from the decor the food is great! It is really really really yummy. I got spinach enchiladas and it was mouth watering. They have great personal pizzas that you can make your own or order a mouth watering combinations. Their burgers are 1/2 pounds each! The food is GREAT! Being in Bar Harbor they have a lot of seafood options. Surprisingly they also have steaks that are creatively named after some of the best trials at Acadia National Park which is right down the road.

I really do suggest it. I would go again!

Peace-out,
